Montanan's for effective wildlife management

Mission

Wildlife management professionals recognize trapping as an effective and legitimate wildlife management tool. Montanans for Effective Wildlife Management is dedicated to preserving this critical, and professionally recognized, tool by defeating Initiative 160.

Trapping is an important tool for biologists, ranchers, farmers, home owners and pest control professionals. It enables wildlife managers to control problematic predator and pest populations that can attack pets, spread diseases among human and wildlife, damage property, impact other wildlife populations and kill livestock.

I-160 is overly broad and will impact the ability to control pests and wildlife on all publicly owned land and facilities. This goes far beyond Montana’s wild spaces to include such publicly owned place as parks, hospitals, universities, municipal golf courses, and state, city and county owned land and buildings.

Montanans for Effective Wildlife Management is dedicated to protecting the tools used by the professional wildlife biologists to ensure sustainable wildlife populations.

How You Can Help

As Benjamin Franklin said at the signing of the Declaration of Independence, “We must hang together, or assuredly we shall all hang separately.” This is the exact situation that those of us that makes a living from or enjoys outdoor activities on Montana public lands face regarding I-160.

This will be a long and expensive battle. MEWM needs your help to be successful. There are a number of ways your organization can help defeat I-160:

  • Officially join MEWM and urge everyone you know to join as well
  • Make a financial contribution to our campaign
  • Talk with your family, friend and neighbors about MEWM and I-160
  • Forward communications you receive from MEWM to those who would be impacted by I-160
  • Write letters to your local paper highlighting the danger, and your opposition to, I-160
  • Invite MEWM to make a presentation to groups, clubs and associations you belong
  • Urge individual members to volunteer and make personal contributions
